In 1936, there were fewer than 200 surfers in California, can you believe? Back then, 16-year-old Don James borrowed his dad's camera to photograph his friends riding the waves, thereby recording the beginnings of surf culture. Today, this gallery poster highlighting his work now sells for up to $500, but there's a lovely reprint for just $29.95. It would look beautiful above a desk, I think.(via The Year in Pictures)

Aw, what a great site.
ReplyDeleteIs it odd that I just want to buy the $6 wrapping paper, frame it and hang it on the wall? :)
Be well,
Jaye
Very very cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm a beach girl so I would love this in my home! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteoh I get so surprised when NY embraces even a bit of LA! But much here indeed to embrace.
ReplyDeletegood luck with your goals of not spending - I am on a similar, less formal, more out of plain need, path lol.
I love, love, love this! Makes me long for California.....
ReplyDeleteit does evoke a sense of halycon days . . pre-Gidget, even!
ReplyDeleteloved your post below about 3 months off from shopping. I watched "the story of stuff" a week or so ago and, not that I didn't already "know" what it covered, it really hadn't sunk in til now and i think I'm right behind you on the NO buying-- repurposing--yes, trading/bartering-yes, just no buying . . .

ReplyDeletei LOVE this. i might just have to get it. being a california girl, with a hubby that surfs, both my boys rooms have a "surf theme"
ReplyDeleteanyway... i just wanted to follow-up, you had commented that you wanted to do the swap, but i don't think i got an email (i could be wrong, & maybe i've already replied to you, but i was just checking & nothing comes up with your name.) anyway, i'm just trying to be a good host. if you still want to do it, & you haven't gotten an email yet, email asap at kLewis@buildingmp.com (gmail seems to be hungry & is eating some of my emails.)
