Travel Fantasy: Lighthouse

Would you like to spend the night in a lighthouse? The Saugerties Lighthouse, a couple hours north of New York City, has two cozy guest rooms. You hike a half mile through the woods to reach it, and then you can sit on the water, relax and drink wine in the evening. The town of Saugerties also has great restaurants, so you could go out to dinner and then sneak back through the woods at night!

P.S. More travel fantasies...

I love this lighthouse. My husband and I stayed there for his birthday on 10/10/10 and it's where I told him I was pregnant. Be warned - sneaking back through the woods at night is a little scary!

  10. This is such a lovely spot. We stayed here in April 2010, and it was so cozy. You can also bring groceries and cook for yourselves in the kitchen, which is what we did. It books up very fast -- we waited almost a year for our reservation!

  18. Looks like an amazing escape. But it also looks haunted! That's what I think when I see old building like that. So romantic but likely inhabited with a ghost or two. Silly, I know. :)

  36. Random comment Joanna but I thought you'd love this idea. Today when fixing lunch for my Mother and I, instead of using mayo for our tuna sandwiches, I replaced it with an incredibly ripe avocado! You still get that creamy consistency but with non of the (bad) fat! We dressed the open face sandwiches with a touch of olive oil and fresh oregano from our garden. Though I'd do my civic duty and let you know about my new delicious discovery!

  37. I'd love to stay in a lighthouse... when I was looking at hostels for my travels earlier in the year, I came across a few that were actually lighthouses as well. Super cool, and probably cheaper than these fancy ones. (If you're willing to give up the nicest sheets and breakfast for a cool, cheaper experience, I say go that route!)

  38. I’d love to spend a night or several in a lighthouse! I was actually looking at it as an option for my honeymoon but we ended up staying next to a beautiful river that led to a private beach.

  56. I was just here a few weeks ago! Friends got married in the Catskills, and we decided to go on a random hike (with no idea that a lighthouse was at the end!) It was high tide, so we waded the last bit, but it was worth it! Also, there were jumping fish all over the place! A wonderful random outdoor adventure to be sure.
