Would you like to spend the night in a lighthouse? The Saugerties Lighthouse, a couple hours north of New York City, has two cozy guest rooms. You hike a half mile through the woods to reach it, and then you can sit on the water, relax and drink wine in the evening. The town of Saugerties also has great restaurants, so you could go out to dinner and then sneak back through the woods at night!P.S. More travel fantasies...
(Thanks, Momfilter)

Aww..sounds like a perfect summer weekend:) There is something super special about lighthouses that I adore. They always seem so mysterious to me. Kisses, Joanna
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon that place accidentally once with my friends! We were driving through (coming back from Woodstock, NY), and stopped in the area to go for a hike. What a nice surprise to see this post!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! What a cool location, and place to live. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletereally charming, especially the part about hiking to get there. that's a true escape :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful place. Wishing I had known about it before I left NY.
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful<3 Althought athmosphere don't look much different then in some places here in the Netherlands:)
ReplyDeleteIt looks magical. I've always loved lighthouses. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteI love this lighthouse. My husband and I stayed there for his birthday on 10/10/10 and it's where I told him I was pregnant. Be warned - sneaking back through the woods at night is a little scary!
ReplyDeleteWow this is amazing. Such a perfect weekend getaway!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely spot. We stayed here in April 2010, and it was so cozy. You can also bring groceries and cook for yourselves in the kitchen, which is what we did. It books up very fast -- we waited almost a year for our reservation!
ReplyDeleteWow! How awesome is this?? I love all the neat things you find. I like daydreaming with your blog.
ReplyDeleteWell, this whole travel fantasies label has made me drool sufficiently.
ReplyDeletethis is a real Dream...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lighthouse! I would have never seen that, so thank you for sharing! I love little virtual vacactions too!

This looks amazing! Are you gonna go?
ReplyDeleteIf I could i would so move there!
ReplyDeleteThere really is something so dreamy about a light house...
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing escape. But it also looks haunted! That's what I think when I see old building like that. So romantic but likely inhabited with a ghost or two. Silly, I know. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a dreamy getaway! You'd feel so secluded...
ReplyDeleteHmm, glad I've seen that just before bedtime - sweet dreams of living there!
ReplyDeleteSo romantic!
ReplyDeleteOh my god, I'm in love. I will have to venture out to Saugerties before I leave the city.
ReplyDeletewow thats so magical

My wife and I went a few years ago - it's so great. They have (or had) kayaks for you to use, and the lighthouse keeper makes you breakfast!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! xx
ReplyDeleteOh wow, it's like a dream! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteyou should check out Beacon - it's about 40 minutes north of NYC and has a ton of cute shops and galleries. It's also home to the Hudson Valley's best burger, Poppy's, and DIA art gallery on the Hudson.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is great! My Mom who loves all things lighthouse would flip at chance to stay at one!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an awesome place. xoxoxo

Joanna, I have been there! I live in Kingston, NY which is about 15 minutes from the lighthouse. I haven't stayed there, but I've gone there to have a little picnic on the island. Someday I'd love to be a guest! How romantic, right?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that sounds like the PERFECT weekend away!!
ReplyDeleteI totally want to live in a lighthouse. I even put it into my blog profile info haha
ReplyDeleteRandom comment Joanna but I thought you'd love this idea. Today when fixing lunch for my Mother and I, instead of using mayo for our tuna sandwiches, I replaced it with an incredibly ripe avocado! You still get that creamy consistency but with non of the (bad) fat! We dressed the open face sandwiches with a touch of olive oil and fresh oregano from our garden. Though I'd do my civic duty and let you know about my new delicious discovery!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to stay in a lighthouse... when I was looking at hostels for my travels earlier in the year, I came across a few that were actually lighthouses as well. Super cool, and probably cheaper than these fancy ones. (If you're willing to give up the nicest sheets and breakfast for a cool, cheaper experience, I say go that route!)
ReplyDeleteI’d love to spend a night or several in a lighthouse! I was actually looking at it as an option for my honeymoon but we ended up staying next to a beautiful river that led to a private beach.

ReplyDeleteOoo! Please post more getaway places outside of NYC. (in woods or on water or in charming small towns)
ReplyDeleteI'll never get sick of indulging in travel fantasies .. thanks for adding a new spot! One of my favourite things to do is ponder all the places I could go if I ever won the lottery. This one would get a run I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteJoanna! My name is Linh and I was at the BHLDN event earlier tonight. I saw you at the very end and was so shocked I didn't know what to say...so I admired you from afar. I can't believe I got to see you in person! You are even more darling and beautiful than ever :) I am on the managing team for our first store in Houston and told all the managers about you and this amazing blog you have. Anyhow, thanks again for coming out and I hope to see you at other events in the future! :)

i don't think it's a working lighthouse but it still has that awesome nautical vibe xo
ReplyDeleteI have had the Saugerties Lighthouse on my list of places to visit for so long now, I really need to make it happen soon! Sounds like such a romantic getaway.
ReplyDeleteYes, please! Sitting by the water, enjoying the evening, sipping on wine sounds like bliss.

Oh my gosh this just hit the nail on the head! what a perfect get away!
ReplyDeleteI was just here a few weeks ago! Friends got married in the Catskills, and we decided to go on a random hike (with no idea that a lighthouse was at the end!) It was high tide, so we waded the last bit, but it was worth it! Also, there were jumping fish all over the place! A wonderful random outdoor adventure to be sure.
ReplyDeleteThose look gorgeous!!! How fun would it be to spend the night in a lightbouse?!
ReplyDeleteOh my God this house!!

Cool shots, I think it could be a great experience to spend a night in a lighthouse, specially if it is an old one.
