What are your plans for the weekend? Tomorrow is the first day of fall! Looking forward to crisp breezes, apple cider and wool sweaters. (Time to bust out the moccasins:) This weekend, we're also taking Toby to see Mary Poppins. It will be the first play he's ever seen, and I'm curious to see how he likes it. Thank you also for all the helpful feedback on the redesign; I appreciate your comments so much. Have a wonderful weekend, and here are a few fun links from around the web...
A new movie about Detroit.
The best word ever.
French wedding dresses.
A fascinating article about a high-school cheating scandal.
Would you do spider lashes?
Peanut-butter-cup brownies.
Cutest rooms.
Wow, now that's a bike-riding mama!
Awwww, what a face.
Tomboy style.
How Toby feels about sandwiches.
This restaurant predicts your dessert with a magic trick.
If you're in a shopping mood, don't forget this.
And, on a more serious note, the wonderful Jenny has been in the hospital this week. Thankfully, I heard from her husband over email that she's getting much better every day. Sending lots of love her way. Update: Yay, a note from her!

Those donuts look delectable. I love all the food shots on instagram. Enjoy Mary Poppins..I was actually telling my husband that you guys are taking TOby and since Lucia is just one month younger and seems to be obsessed with the movie these days maybe we will take her too. Let us know how he likes it!
ReplyDeleteGreat links, as always. x
I was happy to see that Jenny is feeling better. So scary.
love the sandwich video :)
ReplyDeleteSpider lashes? No way! Hope you have a great weekend girl!
ReplyDeleteMary Poppins was (by far) the best show i've ever seen on broadway! It's so magical! I went by ma-self because my husband was hanging with friends and I was so giggly and so gitty, the person next to me must have thought I was a five year old in a 25 year old's bod!
ReplyDeleteWOW...that photo of Emily and her kiddos all riding a bike together is so cool and such an inspiration:) I love that! Have a fantastic weekend. Happy autumn to you guys! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI always love the links you post! So fun. The redesign looks great by the way :). I'll be heading back to Northern California to begin my senior year of college (ahh!). I hope you have a wonderful weekend too. Happy Autumn!

I'm spending the weekend fishing out all the winter gear, yours sounds sooo much better and a lot more fun! happy Autumn :)
ReplyDeleteLet's be honest.. I was hoping to find a donut recipe in here ;)
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way as Toby about sandwiches. That video was awesome. I'm going to incorporate it into my daily repertoire of songs to sing in my head.
ReplyDeleteI loved the article about the bike-riding mama so incredibly much! I may just trade in the wagon I tote my twins around in for a bike soon ;D
ReplyDeleteLove your blog's new look!! And I always love the Friday links! We want to take our dogs hiking and maybe go to the fall festival in Boulder.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna,
ReplyDeleteI'm a long time reader and I just saw the new look! I love it, and I think it fit's the personality and style of the blog perfectly. Great choice!
Jessica
No donuts? What a tease! I'll just have to settle for a sandwich....
ReplyDeleteYou forgot, it is also beef stew season! Yummy! Unfortunately it is still overly warm for for fall here in Oklahoma. I will be working all weekend while my family has fun. High school football game tonight though! Have a blessed weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat article on cheating gave me a stomach ache. I'm going to talk to my kids about it tonight, and my oldest is only 9!
ReplyDeleteSpider lashes? Ugh, never.
My mom was in town last week and we saw Mary Poppins. I am 26 years old and thought it was SO cute and fun! There is so much magic in it - any kid would love it!!
ReplyDeleteDarn, I would vote for "kerfuffle" for best word ever!
ReplyDeletebest one in a while-I just shared the French bridal gowns for all my brides to be, and the sandwich video is hilarious. Enjoy this amazing fall weather.
ReplyDeleteand here is a great doughnut recipe I found on Pinterest. http://pinterest.com/pin/97038566942217064/
ReplyDeleteThe new design looks great! It's only just going into spring in Sydney but I much prefer the summer to fall/winter. This weekend I plan on just relaxing at home with my newborn daughter and extended family. I hope you and Toby have an amazing time at Mary Poppins! Xx
ReplyDeleteThis weekend, I'm going to celebrate fall with friend(s) and either hot chocolate and a walk in Central Park or fall comfort food. Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for a snuggly cozy weekend. I cannot believe that mom pedals all six kids around! What the!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update on Jenny! When I saw her husband's note on her blog I was so worried! Her blog and your blog are ones I check faithfully every day!
ReplyDeleteHappy fall, Joanna!
ReplyDeleteIsn’t That Charming.
Those donuts remind me of cider mills!
ReplyDeleteI just saw Detropia last week at a festival! Though it of course can't talk about every possible factor involved in the history of Detroit, it was very eye opening. Being from Rochester, NY, we feel especially similar in this city due to the fall of Kodak and many parts of the city that are no longer in their glory days. But, lucky for us - we are also in the midst of revitalizing , and like they say in the movie, a lot of it has to do with the young people and artists that "brave it" and move in to the city, instead of out.
ReplyDeleteI just posted about being from Upstate New York and missing fall so much while living in San Francisco, but totally related to your post as I too am from Rochester! It's sad to know that so many of our grandparents, and parents even, had spent their entire careers at Kodak. I only get back home twice a year, but I love every second of it, and am glad to see that you mentioning the revitalization. It will also be my home, and I'll always wish the best on good old Rochacha. Definitely going to check out Detropia too.
DeleteNeat! Thanks for writing back to my post. And what a coincidence that you are now living in San Francisco, because I am considering moving there! Have you been over to the SouthWedge on any recent visits? That is definitely the most up & coming area and has become quite hip lately!
DeleteYou should definitely move to San Francisco! I've had other Rochester friends move here and they love it and never want to leave. Obviously Rochester will always be home to me, but there's so much beauty, adventure, and culture to experience out here on the west coast, if even just for a little while. If you ever have any questions, or need advice, I'd be happy to help. We could find a way to connect off of here. I will warn, however, that life without Wegman's can be difficult!:)
DeleteI have not made it to the SouthWedge very much but have been hearing good things. Before I left Rochester about 6 years ago, I hung around there from time to time and you could tell that it was beginning to gentrify. Glad to hear it's hip and thriving. I will definitely check it out next time!
Yes! Feel free to email me: eleanor.l.schmitt@gmail.com ...What is your line of work? I went to school in CT, and ShopRite just didn't cut it - definitely missed Wegmans!
DeleteI will have a great weekend if those doughnuts are involved.
ReplyDeleteJust saw your newest blog look - I LOVE IT!!! And in regards to the spider lashes, ick, those are a beauty no no in my book:) Best left on the runways right??! TGIF!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the heartwarming fall post! I'm a native Upstate New Yorker living in San Francisco, and this is truly the time of year when I feel homesick. I love seeing the yummy donuts and hearing you mention cider, wool sweaters and moccasins.
ReplyDeleteP.S. LOVE the redesign! I work for a magazine & website, in which we recently redesigned. I've noticed people are definitely creatures of habit and can be resistant to change, as exemplified every time Facebook profiles change and the anger that ensues:) ... but I'm here to say that it's beautiful, hip, and clean! Keep on doing what you're doing, Joanna!
I really like the look of your blog.
ReplyDeleteThat bike riding mama would fit right in here in Belgium - where the bike culture is incredible! It's not uncommon to see a mom with multiple kids in the front "bucket", in child seats (often in front and back of the mom) and tagging along in the back on attached mini-bikes. When we first moved here, I thought it was nuts! But it's such a normal way of life here, and I love it!
ReplyDeleteblah!! I think at least 95% of bloggers have just posted about Fall and I feel very sad and nostalgic. Fall will never come to Saudi Arabia :(
ReplyDeletehave some Fall fun for me
I think my mouth dropped a bit when I saw pictures of the Mom with the bike and six kids. What a workout!
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful weekend you too!!!
ReplyDeleteThose brownies. Man....
ReplyDeleteFantastic!

i recently moved from Northern California to a suburb of Detroit. Its crazy, living in the upscale suburb of Rochester Michigan, because you can forget Detroit is only 45 miles away. The couple of times we have been in the city, it always leave depressed. It is so sad to see what was once such a beautiful city so abandoned. Recently , Popular Mechanics had a article on "Motown revival" it was very encouraging seeing people out there who have a plan to make Detroit great again. Lots of young entrepreneurs out there looking to make a difference. thanks for sharing this Joanna!
ReplyDeleteYou just had to bust out a doughnut photo huh?! I would looove to see that play, one of my fav movies growing up!
